Projects and Studies
The Regional Mobility Plan will be a 20-year plan - and beyond - for pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and automobile facilties connecting Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon and Wakulla Counties. Timeframe: November 2008-October 2010.
The Regional Transit Study will develop a long-term vision for transit within the capital region (Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon and Wakulla counties). Timeframe: March 2009-November 2009.
StarMetro's Decentralization will involve rerouting the StarMetro transit system so that all the buses don't have to come Downtown for transfers. Instead, riders will be able to make transfers at several SuperStops and Regional Transfer Stations, with the goal of reducing travel time and increasing convenience. Timeframe: April 2009-2011.
Within the Tallahassee-Leon County Multimodal District, transportation planning and funding will primarily focus on enhancing mobility through walking, bicycling, and transit instead of the automobile. The District is formally effective as of April 10, 2009, but now the hard work of implementation begins, such as making West Tennessee Street in front of FSU more walkable.
The Community Code will revise zoning standards for the Multimodal District to support more pedestrian and transit oriented design. The Downtown Overlay is part of the Community Code, but is also a special area designated in the Comprehensive Plan to provide even more incentives for high quality urban infill in the Downtown area. Timeframe: June 2008-August 2010.
The Tallahassee-Leon County Mobility Element will be the new transportation element in the Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan and will include goals, objectives, and policies to implement the findings of all of the plans and studies above. Timeframe: January 2010-October 2011.
